LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Authorities in California arrested a man Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Las Vegas earlier this week.

Police said they received a call about the shooting at about 8:30 a.m. Monday at an apartment complex in the 7100 block of Smoke Ranch Road.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, a man was taken to a hospital after being shot but later died.

Family members identify the victim as 23-year-old Kenneth Mallet. They said Mallet was helping a friend jumpstart a car when he was shot.

On Wednesday, police in Fresno, CA, arrested 38-year-old Brian Beltran in connection with the shooting, according to Metro police.

Beltran was being held in California on a fugitive warrant until his extradition to Las Vegas, police said. It was not immediately clear when that would happen.
