Family, friends worried about missing climber on Mt. Hood

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Family and friends of a missing climber on Mt. Hood are holding out hope that he'll be found safe.

Dr. Kinley Adams is well-known in the Salem community. On top of being an experienced climber, he also has his own dental practice and has played with the Salem Pops Orchestra for decades, friends said.

Larry Harrington first met Adams about 11 years ago when Harrington became the conductor of the Salem Pops Orchestra. At the time, Adams was president of the orchestra's board of directors, Harrington said.

The two became friends almost instantly, Harrington said.

"Needless to say, he's been in our constant prayers, and we're all very concerned," said Harrington, who is no longer with the orchestra. "He's always been sorta my right hand man. He's done a lot of things behind the scenes for the orchestra. And he's a very, very good violinist."

Adams first joined the orchestra more than 40 years ago, Harrington said. Adams and his mother were a couple of the group's early members, he added.

"Little things that I needed done," Harrington said. "Like stage management, for one thing. All I needed to do was say 'Hey Kinley, need your help.' And he was ... bang, right there."

The two last spoke in May during the orchestra's last concert of the season.

On top of Adams' dental practice, Harrington told FOX 12 that Adams has always been fond of his experiences on various mountains around the globe.

Harrington said he continues to hold out hope that Adams will meet this particular challenge.

"I just have a lot of faith that he'll be found and that he's OK," Harrington said. "I just refuse to give up on that idea until I hear otherwise."

Adams is a member of the First Baptist Church in Salem.

The church's senior pastor told FOX 12 that his entire congregation is worried about Adams and praying for his safe return. Adams is a great friend and human being, he said.
