LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police on Thursday afternoon busted a marijuana grow house on Famiglia Drive, near Valley View Boulevard and Dean Martin Drive in the south Valley.

Police said they received a tip from a citizen a few days ago and began surveillance which immediately turned up suspicious activity.

"We quickly recognized the strong odor of marijuana from the house. We worked with SWAT and the two people inside the house have been detained," Metro's Lt. Laz Chavez said.

Metro said the house was equipped with an elaborate surveillance system. The bust yielded numerous marijuana plants.

"Once we got inside there appeared to be nearly a hundred marijuana plants, a substantial amount of liquid fertilizer. The inside of the house has been heavily damaged," Chavez said.

Police said a man and woman who were home at the time of the raid have been detained and are being questioned. Neither has been arrested.

"These operations are dangerous. We've seen them dangerous in the past. They attract violence, and we don't want that in the community - certainly not here with all these children," said Chavez.
