LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

High winds, grass and a huge pile of wood created the perfect storm for a fire that could be seen across the Valley Wednesday afternoon.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said a grass fire shortly after 2 p.m. was fanned by high winds and quickly spread to a large pile of wood sheeting in a construction lot on Bonanza Road at Clarkway Drive.

Firefighters said the sheeting was tightly packed with fire between each sheet.

The property owner allowed firefighters to use a forklift to break up the pile, allowing them to more effectively attack the fire.

Neighbors attempted to put the grass fire out before it spread with garden hoses to no avail. It took firefighters approximately 90 minutes to knock most of the flames down.

The wood sheeting is used to make concrete forms used for barrier walls in highway projects.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
