State forester imposes elevated fire restrictions

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Elevated fire restrictions are now in place on all state-owned and state-managed lands, Arizona's state forester said Monday.

Scott Hunt imposed the tougher limitations because of the continued risk of wildfires breaking out in the state and to protect public health and safety.

The restrictions take effect at 8 a.m. Wednesday and will continue until further notice.

"In the last month, there has been an increased incidence of human-caused wildfires throughout the state," Hunt said.

Hunt said so far in 2013, "Arizona has experienced more than 680 fires that burned a total of almost 40,000 acres."

These fire restrictions also cover all state trust lands, all Game and Fish Department wildlife areas and all Arizona state parks.
