A Las Vegas man has been charged with murder and child abuse with substantial bodily harm in connection to an infant's death this week, according to an arrest report.

Police released Friday details in the arrest of 24-year-old Detrail Lamont Young. Young is accused of causing the injuries that led to the death of a 16-month-old girl in his care.

According to the arrest report, the baby girl named Quie'sear was taken to University Medical Center late Tuesday night after she was found unresponsive and not breathing.

Doctors told police, in the arrest report, that the child's injuries were the result of abuse. Those injuries included hemorrhages to the eye area, bruises to her chest, neck and head, and a possible lacerated liver, according to the report.

In an interview with police Young told detectives, according to the report, that his girlfriend assumed guardianship of the child after her cousin, the baby's mother, gave up custody.

Young was taking care of the infant along with his and her girlfriend's children on Tuesday evening, the arrest report stated.

Young, in the report, relayed a previous time Quie'sear was hospitalized for throat and face swelling as a result of an allergic reaction. Police said in the report UMC staff thought bruising on the child at the time was the result of abuse but did not report it because of the swelling.

Young, in the report, denied causing any mistreatment to the child.

Young, though, demonstrated in the report the actions he took with Quie'sear during a subsequent polygraph test and interview.

On an infant doll, Young, in the report, showed detectives how he would grab the child under the arms, shake her back and forth and drop her as if she was falling on a bed without breaking her fall. Young told police, in the report, he would do this when the child cried.

Young's girlfriend confirmed the actions, in the report, saying she saw him do it on two separate occasions. She asserted, though, that she told him to quit shaking the child. The girlfriend was at work during the time Young was taking care of Quie'sear, the report said.

Police in the report said the child died Thursday as a result of her injuries.

Young's neighbor, Cassanera Cole, was shocked to hear of his arrest. She says she was in his apartment before the infant was rushed to the hospital.

"I ran upstairs behind her and she was laying on the floor, and (Young) was giving her mouth to mouth," Cole said.  She said Young never seemed angry or violent when her daughter would play with Quie'sear and the other children that live in the apartment.

Another neighbor, Lydia Eugarros, who lives below Young said she would often hear a baby crying.  She knew something was wrong on Tuesday when the crying stopped.

"That was the last night I heard the baby," said Eugarros, "I don't hear the baby anymore."

Young was booked on counts of child abuse with substantial bodily harm and murder.
