LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The effort to restore the aging Huntridge Theater near downtown Las Vegas has garnered more than $23,000 following a first week of donations.

The consortium Huntridge Revival, LLC kicked off crowdfunding efforts on June 4 to help gain the capital needed to acquire and renovate the concert and performing arts venue.

As of Friday, funds reached more than $23,300 in the first seven days at the project's crowdsource site on IndieGoGo.com.

The group behind the effort set an initial fundraising goal of $150,000 to be met by July 17.

The group, though, said the total amount needed for the entire project is looking to be between $12 million and $15 million.

"The reality is that we've received a ton of excitement and momentum, but we've reached a point where we need this additional start-up capital required to move forward," said managing partner Joey Vanas.

In hopes to entice donations, the group also announced rewards for certain contributed amounts. Donations for as little as $5 and as much as $25,000 will be rewarded with souvenirs and member benefits once the theater reopens.
