LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A group aimed at returning the Huntridge Theater in downtown Las Vegas to its former glory.

Huntridge Revival said it plans to launch a crowd-funding initiative at 9 a.m. Friday. The group will use the First Friday festivities in downtown to raise awareness of the fundraising effort.

The revival group said it will use fundraising site IndieGoGo.com to help raise money from the community to bring the Huntridge Theater back to life.

"IndieGoGo allows everyone a chance to signal their emotional investment in bringing back a piece of history," said Shawn Swanson, a volunteer for the campaign. "The Las Vegas community wants the Huntridge to live again and they're willing to support it."

Last month, Huntridge Revival announced plans to buy the vacant property from King George LLC and renovate the building.

Contribution levels for the fundraising campaign will start at $5. Perks at other contribution levels will include merchandise, private entrances and assigned parking.

Huntridge Revival will have a tent at Casino Center from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday so people can learn more about the renovation plans.

The Huntridge Theater, located on Charleston Boulevard, opened in 1944, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It closed in July 2004.
