Crowds lined up early to be part of the inaugural Speedway Soldiers' Run at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Participants either took part in the 5K run or the 1-mile walk which is just one lap around the giant track.
The race kicked off at 9 a.m. Monday morning with hundreds of adults and lots of kids gathered there to honor veterans on Memorial Day. Organizers say they'd like to try to make this an annual event depending on the success from this first year.
Proceeds from the raise were split between the Wounded Warrior Project and Speedway Children's Charities. The ladies of Pin Up for Patriots were also in attendance to raise money for military families. Darby Fox greeted the runners and walkers just before 9 a.m. to get them ready for race day.
No word yet on how much money was raised for the charities.
