Huge crowds decided to check out the brand new Wet ‘N' Wild Las Vegas water park on Saturday's grand opening for Gold Pass holders, causing some problems on opening day.

Kolton Blanda, 12, had great things to say about the new water park.

"It was awesome, because there's so many twists and turns - it's really cool," Blanda said seconds after sliding down a water slide. He said the lines for the park's ten slides ranged from a few minutes to a couple of hours.

Outside the park it was another story. Traffic on Fort Apache was at a stand still, with so many people trying to jump in the water at once.

Director of Marketing Trevor Wilson said some of those people were turned away at the front gates when the park reached capacity. Wilson would not say how many people were at Wet ‘N' Wild on Saturday, or what park capacity is.

"It was unfortunate for some people that couldn't get in, but we're really trying to maintain a safe and fun environment when you get inside," Wilson said.

Parking was also a challenge for many water park guests. Some park visitors parked on residential streets, while others turned dirt lots into parking lots and walked to the park.

Trina Walker says she spent thirty minutes finding parking, and an hour waiting in line for her Gold Pass. She says by the time she got inside, all the lockers were full and she had nowhere to put her backpack.

"You can't ride the rides with your backpack on the outside, so I'm going to leave," said Walker.

Employees say coming to Wet ‘N' Wild early in the morning or late in the afternoon are the best bets for those looking to check out the park.

The park is open to Gold Pass Holders Sunday and Monday. The park opens to the general public June 3.
