LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

There were no injuries after shots were exchanged in east Las Vegas between law enforcement officers and a man wanted for murder in California.

According to the Las Vegas Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a criminal apprehension team was seeking a suspect at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Karen Avenue, near Bruce Street, on Tuesday evening.

Las Vegas Metro police identified the suspect as Rene Dendaas, 37.

FBI Public Affairs Specialist Bridget Pappas said the suspect fired a gun at law enforcement and they fired back.

An agent's bulletproof vest was struck by an object but that person was not injured, according to the FBI. Officials said it was not immediately determined if the object was a bullet, shrapnel or other debris.

Dendaas then barricaded himself in an apartment. FBI SWAT, Metro SWAT and negotiators were called in. He later came out and was taken into custody.

The complex was evacuated during the situation, FBI said.
