LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Two bodies that were found at a Las Vegas apartment complex Friday afternoon have been identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
The discovery happened about 3 p.m. on May 17 at the Mark 1 Apartments at 1020 E. Desert Inn Rd. near Maryland Parkway.
Detectives said it appears a man shot and killed a woman inside her one-bedroom apartment before taking his own life.
Both were described as Hispanics and were Las Vegas residents. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Vanniesa Caroline Fernandez and her cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the back of her head and neck. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
The man believed to have killed Fernandez has been identified as 29-year-old Luis E. Montiel who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His death is being ruled as a suicide.
Officers first discovered the bodies when a friend requested a welfare check.
The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
