LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A local builders group sent praise Friday to the new owners of the Las Vegas 51s baseball team.

Darren Enns of Southern Nevada Building Trades called the owners' plan to build a new stadium for team in Summerlin an opportunity for economic growth in the area.

"The sale of the Las Vegas 51s and the announcement of a potential new baseball stadium presents an exciting opportunity for economic growth and new jobs in Nevada," Enns said in a statement. "The new owners have indicated an interest in investing in our community, and the best way to do that would be to ensure that local union labor is used to build the new stadium and surrounding buildings."

Enns went on to express excitement in viewing plans of the stadium in the near future.

On Monday, the current owner of the AAA minor league team announced the sale to Summerlin Las Vegas Baseball Club, which is a joint venture between the Howard Hughes Corporation and Play Ball Owners Group.

The new team owners planned to build a $65 million stadium called The Ballpark at Summerlin Center near Red Rock Casino as part of the move.

After the purchase is finalized, the new owners would need support from the city of Las Vegas, Clark County and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority before construction can begin on the park.
