The Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights soccer team hoped to return to Albany from Macon with the program's first ever state championship.
They would come home empty-handed.
Hated rival Stratford went on a second half scoring binge to end Deerfield's dreams, 8-0.
"They were the much better team," DWS Head Coach Aly Joslin says.
The Lady Knights kept it close in the first half, trailing only 2-0 at halftime.
But the Lady Eagles netted six more in the second to claim the title.
"We were good for 25 minutes," Joslin says. "The second half was too much for us."
