A mother from Southington was arrested Monday after allegedly trying to pick her children up from school while drunk.
Police said Marita Shurkus, 45, arrived at the school to pick the children up from an after-school program, and the staff refused to let her leave the facility with them.
Staff called police to alert them of what was taking place, and when they arrived to interview her they made her take field sobriety tests, which she failed.
She was arrested and charged with criminal attempted risk of injury to a minor and operating under the influence of alcohol.
She was released on $1,500 bond and was given a court date of May 20.
