An elderly woman found unconscious at the scene of a condominium fire in Las Vegas has died, fire officials said Wednesday.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported the blaze about noon in the 6400 block of Melody Rose Avenue.

Tim Szymanski, spokesman for Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, said the woman in her early 60s was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Szymanski also said a pet dog at the residence also died. Both appeared to have been overcome by smoke, Szymanski noted.

LVFR said the cause of the fire may have been accident and stemmed from careless smoking. The fire appeared to have started in the bedroom, Szymanski said.

Damage was estimated at $60,000.
