LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation will host a Fallen Heroes 5K on Armed Forces Day.

The community is invited to join local families in honoring their sons and daughters in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is at Bruce Trent Park on Vegas Drive near Rampart Boulevard.

The families will have photos and boots lining the raceway. There will also be photos and boots to honor Nevada's fallen after 9/11. People can donate boots to the race at the VFW Post 10047 or the Creech AFRC. The boots will be donated to the fall homeless stand-down after the race.

Volunteers are needed to run water stations and set up items along the path.

The race starts at 8 a.m. with Honor Guard at 7:30 a.m.

Money raised at the race will support grief webinars for families and help pay postage to send care packages to current Southern Nevada service members.
