Montgomery Co. official facing drug charges resigns

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Montgomery County commissioner has resigned following accusations that he illegally used another man's identity to obtain the prescription painkiller Oxycodone.

The Leaf-Chronicle reports Jeremy Bowles was a pharmacist before he was indicted in October by a Montgomery County grand jury on prescription forgery and identity theft. In March, Christian County, Ky., authorities charged him in the same incident.

Bowles said in his Monday resignation letter that he needs to focus on his family and his recovery from a prescription drug problem.

A replacement commissioner will be appointed to serve until the next county general election in August 2014.
