LAS VEGAS (FOX5/AP) -

Firefighters from Nevada were sent to help battle wildfires in California, according to officials.

A massive wildfire near Camarillo, CA, has grabbed national attention, after devouring more than 15 acres since it began Thursday. As many as 4,000 homes were threatened by the blaze. It was just one of nearly a half-dozen fires burning in California.

Dave Curry, manager of the Western Great Basin Coordination Center at the Bureau of Land Management, said a hot shot crew, which includes 20 firefighters, and seven fire engines were dispatched from Nevada on Thursday to help extinguish the blazes.

Forecasters hoped that a decrease in the Santa Ana winds and higher humidity levels would help stop the fires.

No injuries were immediately reported.
