LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police have identified the officers involved in the shooting of a stabbing suspect near Rainbow Boulevard and Alta Drive on Monday night.

Officer James Milligan, 26, has been with Metro since 2006.

Officer Praise Cowman, 28, has been with the department since 2007.

Both officers are assigned to Metro's Northwest Area Command and have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the shooting.

The officers shot Nathan Benson, 27, after neighbors called police claiming to have seen him in the area.

After patrolling the area, police found Benson walking down Rainbow with a knife. Police told FOX5 they asked Benson to surrender, but he did not. That is when shots were fired.

Benson was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He survived and made his first appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court on Thursday.

Homicide detectives believe Benson fatally stabbed 44-year-old Shanna Ralston in front of her home early Sunday morning.

Benson's mother lived inside Ralston's home, and he was visiting her at the time of the attack.
