A 27-year-old man accused in the stabbing death of a woman is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court Thursday.

Nathan Benson was shot by Las Vegas Metro police officers Monday night when they tried making contact with him, authorities said.

Benson was identified by police as the suspect in the slaying of 44-year-old Shanna Ralston. According to Las Vegas Metro police, Ralston was found stabbed early Sunday morning in a neighborhood near Jones Boulevard and Washington Avenue.

A police report stated Ralston identified Benson by name in the stabbing that took place at her home.

Benson was nowhere to be found following the incident until tips led officers to the suspect walking along Rainbow Boulevard near Alta Drive.

It was there, according to a police report, Benson charged at officers with a knife. Two officers opened fire at Benson, hitting him at least once, according to police.

Benson was transported to University Medical Center for treatment.

Police said detectives recovered two knives believed to be linked to Ralston's murder.
