Two knives with dried blood on them were recovered at the scene of an officer-involved shooting that wounded the suspect of a deadly stabbing in northwest Las Vegas.

The discovery was stated in a Las Vegas Metro arrest report released Tuesday for 27-year-old Nathan Benson, who was critically wounded late Monday near the corner of Rainbow Boulevard and Alta Drive.

According to police, Benson was identified as the suspect in the slaying of 44-year-old Shanna Ralston, who was also identified in the report as Shanna Fernandez.

In the report, police said Benson had been staying at Fernandez's home near Washington Avenue and Jones Boulevard. Benson's mother rented a spare bedroom at the residence, police said.

According to the report, Benson and Fernandez were seen by another person living at the home watching television late Saturday night. That person, in the report, told police he had heard a woman screaming some time later that night.

Police said Benson reportedly called his mother using Fernandez's cell phone just after midnight. Police, in the report, said he was angry because she was eating at a relative's place without him.

About 10 minutes later, a woman living several houses down from Fernandez's home called police about finding Fernandez bleeding. In the report, the woman was told by Fernandez that Benson stabbed her.

Fernandez died just before 1 a.m. early Sunday, the report stated.

Police were unable to find Benson after the incident until residents reported seeing him late Monday night in a neighborhood just off Rainbow, the report said.

It was there, in the report, officers saw Benson walking down the street. The report stated Benson produced a knife and started running when officers drew closer to him.

Police, in the report, said Benson was running with two knives in his hand, and, as officers approached the suspect, he raised one of the knives over his head in their direction. That was when two of the officers fired a shot at Benson, striking him at least once, the report said.

Benson was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries. In the report, Benson stated while in transport that he wished the officers had killed him.

The report went on to say two red-handled kitchen knives that Benson had used were recovered from the shooting scene. Police said those knives had dried blood on them and matched the ones that went missing from the murder scene.

Benson was booked in absentia on charges of murder with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and resisting arrest with a weapon.
