LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Residents in a valley neighborhood are seeking justice and watching out for a suspected killer. The fear comes after Shanna Ralston, a local resident, was stabbed and killed on Sunday.

"I think it's a dream and we are going to wake up. That's all I know. I wish it was a dream," said Mary Estrellado, a family friend.

Metro detectives are searching for 27-year-old Nathan Benson. His mugshot from a previous arrest earlier this year is being circulated by local media. Ralston's ex-husband and roommate, Francisco Fernandez, said he won't sleep until Benson is caught.

Fernandez is one of several people, including the suspect's mother, that lives inside Ralston's home. He said the victim was a black belt Judo instructor who at one point taught Benson in her class. Detectives say Ralston ran to the street for help after a confrontation with the suspect.

"She was covered in blood and they [police] could not even see her. It was so dark they couldn't see her skin color. She was covered from head to toe. She had blood pouring out from her neck," Estrellado said.

Ralston was taken to UMC Trauma, where she was declared dead.

Metro police are also releasing a DMV picture of Benson with his hair shaved off. They are warning the community to stay alert because the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

"Appearance can be quickly changed, and so we believe that it's important to put out a picture of what he currently looks like or what he may look like," said Officer Laura Meltzer with Metro police.
