Hotter temperatures on the way

Posted: Updated:

Ready or not, 100-degree temperatures are closer than you think. The National Weather Service forecast for Monday is calling for a 98 degrees. The normal daytime high for this time of the year is 81.

While triple-digit temperatures are unusual here at this time of the year, it can lead to some health issues for people and pets.

"Your body does like to assimilate," said family physician Dr. Daliah Wachs. She expects an uptick in dehydration cases next week.

"If your kid or mother or grandmother complains they are having a headache, complains about being tired, seems to be a little confused, it could be a sign of dehydration," said Wachs.

"100 degrees is 100 degrees," said veterinarian Dr. Terry Muratore. "Pets need shelter and access to plenty of water."

Muratore warns against shaving a dog or cat's fur. According to Muratore, the fur will actually help keep the pet cool and will protect its skin.

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will continue to climb to the upper 90s right through until Wednesday and will then remain in the 90s for the rest of the week.
