Metro police said a man was taken into custody on Wednesday for beating a bicyclist and attempting to steal his bicycle.
Police said the incident started about 5:20 p.m. when a man driving on Interstate 215 near Warm Springs Road crashed into a car. The man allegedly fled the accident scene.
That driver then exited I-215, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree, police said.
Police claim the man then got out of his vehicle, spotted a bicyclist, approached him and beat him badly. The still unidentified man allegedly attempted to steal the man's bicycle but was detained by citizens until police arrived.
The suspect has been charged with robbery. He could be facing hit-and-run charges as well.
The beating victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.
