A district court judge on Tuesday suspended the jury selection process in the criminal trial of Dr. Dipak Desai for two days, Clark County Courts confirmed to FOX5.
The move was made to give defense attorneys time to work on a motion it filed with the Nevada Supreme Court regarding concerns about Desai's mental suitability to stand trial.
Desai is on trial in connection with the largest hepatitis C outbreak in our nation's history.
Desai, along with two nurses, Ronald Lakeman and Keith Mathahs, faces charges of murder, neglect, racketeering and insurance fraud, in connection with the infections of more than 100 patients in 2007 and 2008 at Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.
The trio is accused of reusing needles and vials, which led to the infections.
Rodolfo Meana, 77, died as a result of the disease. Officials said his case was genetically linked to Desai's practice.
