LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
One man is dead after riding his bicycle into traffic in North Las Vegas.
Around 7:30 in the evening Friday, April 19, dispatch received a call of a man on a bicycle who was struck by an SUV in the 4900 block of Cheyenne Road, between Rancho and Decatur Boulevard.
When North Las Vegas police arrived on scene they found a 55-year-old North Las Vegas man lying in the roadway unresponsive. Medical arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the bicyclist was riding southbound across Cheyenne Road when he was struck by a Kia SUV traveling eastbound on Cheyenne Road. Witnesses stated that several cars had to swerve or brake in order to avoid hitting the man. The 23-year-old North Las Vegas woman who was driving the SUV was not injured in the crash.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this accident on part of the deceased. Clark County coroner's office will contact the next of kin. The woman driver is not expected to face charges. This is the fourth fatal accident this year in North Las Vegas.
FOX5 will continue to provide updates on this incident as details become available.
