If you see and hear police and other first responders storming Fashion Show Mall or Town Square in the early morning hours of Thursday, relax, it's just a drill.
Officers from Metro's South Central Area Command, along with Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and fire personnel, will be simulating a two-pronged attack by armed assailants.
The exercise will simulate attacks at busy shopping centers and get underway at 11 p.m. Wednesday. The exercise will begin at Fashion Show Mall, with a second simulated attack at Town Square occurring moments later.
First responders will test coordinated efforts under MACTAC (Multi-Assault Counter-Terrorism Action Capabilities) guidelines. Agencies will work together to access target locations and treat and evacuate simulated casualties.
MACTAC training and response concepts grew from the 2009 terror attacks in Mumbai, India.
The exercise should conclude by 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
