LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Ammar Harris made his first appearance in a Las Vegas courtroom Wednesday in connection to the deadly shooting and resultant wreck that paralyzed the Las Vegas Strip earlier this year.

Harris was ushered into a Las Vegas Justice Court room by two marshals before being read his charges by Judge Deborah J. Lippis.

"Yes, ma'am," Harris said on whether he understood the charges. Those were the only words he said in court for his short preliminary hearing.

Harris was also appointed a public defender.

Lippis approved a status check in the case scheduled for April 29.

Harris was extradited from California and booked into Clark County Detention Center on Tuesday nearly two months after the Feb. 21 incident that killed three people.

According to the CCDC website, Harris was booked on three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and seven counts of prohibited discharge of a weapon.

Harris was arrested in Studio City, CA on March 28 following a week-long manhunt. Authorities identified him as the person behind the wheel of a Range Rover involved in a car-to-car shooting on the Strip.

The shooting resulted in the slaying of Kenneth Cherry Jr., 27, as well as the deaths of taxi driver Michael Boldon, 62, and cab passenger Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, 48.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, Harris shot at Cherry's Maserati, causing the driver in the sports car to speed through an intersection at Flamingo Road and crash into Boldon's taxi.

Harris had been fighting extradition after his arrest in California with hearings organized in court to established whether he was indeed the man authorities were seeking.

Boldon's family was on hand for Harris' hearing Wednesday. Boldon's brother was seen in tears during the swift proceedings.

Las Vegas Metro police also disclosed on Tuesday officers were aware of Harris' consideration of escaping custody and that measures were in place to prevent that.

Extradition, though, was handled without incident, police said.
