Inmate dies at High Desert State Prison

Posted: Updated:

An inmate serving time at High Desert State Prison for attempted sexual assault died Wednesday.

According to the Nevada Department of Corrections, David William Parks, 55, collapsed in the prison dining room, apparently of natural causes.

Officials said Parks was given CPR in the dining room before being taken to the prison infirmary and ultimately to a Mercy Air Paramedic.

Parks was pronounced dead while en route to a medical facility, the corrections department said.

His body was released to the Clark County Coroner's office, which will determine Parks' cause of death.

Officials noted Parks was convicted in Clark County on two counts of attempted sexual assault of a victim under 16 years old. He was slated to serve 6-15 years in prison.
