UNLV opens 2013 football season Aug. 29

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas football program kicks off its 2013 campaign on a Thursday night in Minnesota, according to the team's schedule.

The athletic department released the varsity team's season schedule, which showed a three-game home stand in the first five games.

The season opens against the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis on Aug. 29.

The Rebels then host the University of Arizona Wildcats in the season home debut at Sam Boyd Stadium on Sept. 7.

The team opens up the Mountain West portion of its schedule with a road tilt at the University of New Mexico Lobos on Sept. 28. UNLV gets to see rival University of Nevada, Reno at Mackay Stadium on Oct. 26.

The regular season ends at home on Nov. 30 against San Diego State University.

Other than Minnesota and Arizona, UNLV's non-conference opponents include Central Michigan University and Western Illinois University.

  • Sept. 14, CENTRAL MICHIGAN;
  • Sept. 21, WESTERN ARIZONA;
  • Sept. 28, at New Mexico;
  • Oct. 5, Idle;
  • Oct. 12, HAWAII;
  • Oct. 19, at Fresno State;
  • Oct. 26, at Nevada, Reno;
  • Nov. 2, SAN JOSE STATE;
  • Nov. 9, UTAH STATE;
  • Nov. 16, Idle;
  • Nov. 21, at Air Force;
  • Nov. 30, SAN DIEGO STATE.
