Wind advisory in effect for Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A wind advisory was issued for the Las Vegas valley on Monday as a strong cold front entered the region overnight.

FOX5 meteorologist Ted Pretty reported the onset of the front early Monday morning, bringing 40-50 mph winds. In some areas, the potential for 65 mph wind is possible, Pretty projected.

Pretty also reported mountain winds could also top 70 mph. The wind advisory is in effect through 11 p.m. Monday.

Clark County Department of Air Quality also issued a dust advisory as the winds pick up. Officials advised cautious travel on the roads during the gusts.

In addition, isolated thunderstorms and showers were possible for parts of the Las Vegas valley.

Temperatures were expected to fall with a high of 62 degrees forecasted.
