Dust advisory issued in Clark County

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Clark County air quality officials issued a dust advisory Monday as forecasted wind gusts pick up throughout the area.

The advisory was in effect through Tuesday morning.

According to the county's Department of Air Quality, officials directed the advisory particularly to people working or engaging in outdoor activities. The department said there were no indications of unhealthy levels of dust early in the advisory.

FOX5 meteorologist Ted Pretty reported winds could top 65 mph during times on Monday.

The department also recommended the following tips when traveling during the high winds:

  • Drive slowly on unpaved roads.
  • Don't take short cuts across vacant lots.
  • Ride off-road vehicles in approved areas outside the urban Las Vegas Valley.
  • Fence off barren property or cover it with gravel, rock, or desert-friendly landscaping.
