Chief insurance examiner's body allegedly found in Carson River

Posted: Updated:

A body that is believed to be the Nevada chief insurance examiner was found in Carson River on Saturday.

At 8:10 a.m. Saturday morning, Carson City Sheriff's Search and Rescue teams located a body wrapped in a blanket and dumped in the Carson River waters just South of Carson River Road.

The identification of the body is pending an autopsy.

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Early Saturday morning, Michael Paul Evans, 23, was arrested in Carson City charged with murder, burglary with a deadly weapon, and battery.

Three more suspects were also arrested Saturday morning at a CVS on the Las Vegas Strip, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Anthony Elliot, 20, was arrested for murder charges. Raul Garcia, 22, and Makyla Blackmore, 20, were arrested on burglary charges.

KOLO 8, a station in Reno, says investigators identified the suspects after some of McCune's belongings were pawned in Reno and North Las Vegas.

The Carson City Sheriff's office suspected foul play after examiner William McCune, 62, went missing on Thursday. He failed to board a work-related flight and employees could not find him at his residence.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said that sheriff deputies were called to the apartment Thursday for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they found scattered blood throughout the apartment, indicating a struggle took place.

The circumstances of McCune's disappearance lead Furlong to believe it was not a work-related incident, but an attempt to steal money and electronics from his home. Furlong says the suspects may not have even known McCune.

The Nevada Division of Insurance spokesperson Jake Sunderland refused to comment on this case. McCune has been an insurance examiner since 2009.

FOX5 will continue to bring you the latest details on this developing case as they become available.
