LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Authorities have charged two women believed to be involved in a shooting that happened just as they were leaving the scene of an east Las Vegas home break-in.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, Melissa Heath, 30, and Ashley Garcia, 19, were charged in connection to the March 7 incident that took place in the 7200 block of Copper Road, east of Hollywood Boulevard.
Police said an investigation produced the two as persons of interest. Metro noted the women were actually behind bars following an unrelated auto burglary that took place in the south end of Las Vegas. The two were re-booked March 31 on attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and burglary charges.
In the March 7 incident, police said, one of the suspects confronted a couple who had arrived at a home belonging to their son.
One of the women was exiting the home while the other was waiting in a vehicle parked in front, police said.
Once the exiting suspect entered the vehicle, she produced a handgun and shot the man from inside the car before fleeing, police said.
Metro said the man sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was treated.
Police said an investigation continues into the shooting. They urged anyone with information on the incident to contact Metro's Violent Crimes Section at 702-828-5634 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
