LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

An 18-year-old driver admitted to blacking out while behind the wheel of a car that hopped a median, veered toward the opposing side of traffic and struck two cars and 10 people at a west Las Vegas restaurant.

In an arrest report released Tuesday by Las Vegas Metro police, Gage Lindsey also admitted to attempting to leave his vehicle after crashing into the Egg & I restaurant on Sahara Avenue Monday, because, as stated in the report, he most likely would have gotten into a confrontation with patrons there.

As described in the report, Lindsey's Lexus was in the far right lane of westbound Sahara near Arville Street when he veered into eastbound lanes and plowed through the north side patio area of the restaurant just after 12:30 p.m.

In the report, first responding officers said several people were pinned under the vehicle and other customers detained the driver and passenger who both attempted to flee.

The report said Lindsey was also seen attempting to discard a pill he claimed was Xanax.

While being questioned by officers, Lindsey, in the report, appeared to be disoriented and was unable to tell the date or day of the week or the time of day. Lindsey, in the report, admitted to having problems with drugs in the past but said he hadn't taken any recently.

After determining Lindsey may have been impaired by drugs, police, in the report, took blood and urine samples from the suspect while he was in custody at Clark County Detention Center.

On Tuesday, Lindsey's family released the following statement, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. Gage is a good kid and the accident was a mistake."

The Metro report also specified injuries to some of the 10 people who were hurt in the crash. Three of the people hospitalized had substantial injuries, including:

  • Michael Glenn, 35, with a collapsed lung, thoracic spine fractures, open right forearm fracture, multiple shoulder area fractures;
  • Connie Moreno, 40, with a broken clavicle, lower leg fractures and broken ribs;
  • Antonia Manabi, 52, with facial and rib fractures.

In the report, nine people were transported to University Medical Center, while one was taken to Sunrise Hospital.

He faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and attempting to leave the scene of an accident. Lindsey's initial court hearing was listed for Wednesday, according to court records.
