LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 26-year-old woman charged in a wreck that killed another driver in west Las Vegas on Saturday stated she had a couple of beers before the collision and had taken a Xanax pill the night before that, according to a police arrest report.

Las Vegas Metro police said Shauna Miller was charged with a count of driving under the influence following the two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Spring Mountain and Wynn roads just after 7 a.m. on March 23.

In an arrest report released Monday, Miller told police she was driving westbound on Spring Mountain when her Hummer H2 was approaching the intersection during a green-to-yellow light change.

Miller stated in the report she struck the driver side of a Ford Escort that was turning right from Wynn onto Spring Mountain.

According to police, 33-year-old James Joseph White, the driver of the Ford, died as a result of the collision, while a 2-year-old child sitting in a car seat in the Escort had only minor injuries.

"He was a good person," said Tracy Valdez, who is White's friend. "He had morals and values. He loved his family and now his family doesn't have him anymore. Somebody has got to do something about drinking and driving and drugs. It's not right. This is what happens when people do this."

The report says that officers observed Miller's eyes as glassy and her pupils constricted. They also detected a moderate odor of alcohol, the report said.

When asked what she had been doing before the wreck, Miller, in the report, told police she had been working as a dancer at the Spearmint Rhino strip club from 2 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.

She told officers, in the report, that she had two beers, with her last consumed about 3 or 4 a.m. She also told police she took a Xanax pill the night before but did not have a prescription for it.

The admission prompted officers to give Miller a field sobriety test, which resulted in failures in two of the test's phases.

As a result, police in the report arrested Miller for DUI resulting in death.

The report also said additional investigation at the scene showed White's vehicle was heading straight southbound rather than turning right as Miller stated. Police also reported investigators saw no pre-impact braking from Miller's Hummer, contradicting her claim that she tried to brake to avoid a collision.

Police were still looking into which vehicle specifically ran the red light in the wreck, according to the report.
