Police: Teen arrested for beating grandfather with baseball bat

A Las Vegas teen is under arrest, accused of beating his grandfather with a baseball bat.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, Nicholas Duran, 18, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack on his grandfather, Arthur Duran.

Police said they received a call from a neighbor stating that Arthur Duran had been assaulted by his grandson at his home on Westcliff Drive, near Durango Drive on the Valley's west side.

According to Nicholas Duran's arrest report, the teen, who was living with his grandfather, had been asked to leave and find a job.

Nicholas Duran left the home, later returning and getting into an argument with his grandfather. Police believe the teen struck his grandfather in the head several times with an 18" baseball bat of the souvenir variety.

Arthur Duran was taken to University Medical Center Trauma. He head wounds were such that bone was exposed.

Nicholas Duran later returned to the residence, where he was arrested.

During an interview, Nicholas Duran told police his grandfather had punched him and in turn he became "angry, frustrated, and had a schizophrenic episode."

Nicholas Duran further told police voices in his head told him to kill his grandfather. The teen was booked into Clark County Detention Center.
