A woman was held at gunpoint by her ex-boyfriend inside a vehicle before jumping out onto a highway while the car was traveling 60 miles per hour, according to police.
Las Vegas Metro police described the alleged March 15 domestic incident involving 31-year-old Danny Gutierrez near Laughlin in an arrest report released Monday.
According to the arrest report, Gutierrez and his ex-girlfriend recently separated after a year together. She went to see him at his apartment to talk and collect belongings, the report said.
While there, according to the report, Gutierrez pulled a gun on the woman and ordered her to drive him in her vehicle.
During the westbound drive on Highway 163, Gutierrez, in the report, placed the gun in the center console, which she took away from him momentarily. Police said, in the report, Gutierrez took back the gun and later opened fire in the car, hitting the steering wheel and a side rear view mirror.
After stopping to get gas near the 163 and U.S. 95, police say in the report, Gutierrez took over driving and headed eastbound back toward Laughlin.
From there, according to police, Gutierrez started yelling at the victim and pointing the gun at her. The victim, as police were told, picked her spot to leap out of the moving vehicle around Mile Marker 10 on Highway 163.
Police said the victim sustained numerous scratches, severe road rash and a gash to the back of her head. She was able to get up and flag down a pick-up truck, according to the report.
About that time, the report says, the victim urges the pick-up driver to transport her and go while Gutierrez started firing shots at them. The pick-up, with the victim, was able to get away and the suspect drove back towards Laughlin, the report said.
The victim was able to contact authorities and she was later able to be transported to a Las Vegas area hospital, the report said.
Police later arrested Gutierrez without incident at his apartment later that day. According to the report, police recovered a loaded weapon from the home, as well as empty shell casings in the vehicle, which was found abandoned in a desert area.
Gutierrez was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping with a deadly weapon and a prohibited person in possession of ammunition in connection to the incident.
