An Ahwatukee Foothills family will be looking for a new house when they return from vacation after a fire Thursday night destroyed their home.

A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said the home between 5,000 and  6,000 square feet was destroyed by the fire, in which flames shot as high as 50 feet in the air.

More than 60 firefighters fought the stubborn fire for more than 90 minutes.

Neighbors told firefighters the family was away on vacation, but didn't say when they were scheduled to return.

No cause had been determined and other information was immediately available.
