PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Pinal County Attorney is seeking the death penalty for a Phoenix man facing charges in a brutal San Tan Valley murder last year.

Cory Allen, 28, of Phoenix, was arrested in Leadville, CO, on March 8 for his connection to the death of Linda Perelli-Brown.

On Thursday, Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles filed the state's notice of intent to seek the death penalty for Allen.

In November 2012, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from Nicole Frauton reporting her mother was being threatened by an acquaintance inside the family home. Deputies responded to find Perelli-Brown shot multiple times.

Investigators quickly identified Allen as the perpetrator and issued a warrant for his arrest.

The U.S. Marshals' Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force immediately went to work investigating Allen's whereabouts.

A recent development in the case led investigators to Colorado where Allen was located and taken into custody without incident.

"Corey Allen's brutal murder of Ms. Perelli-Brown made him a top priority for us. We never stopped looking for him, and now we hope that Allen's arrest can give some comfort to the Perelli-Brown family" said David P. Gonzales, U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona.

Allen was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Allen is scheduled to be in court again on May 13.
