The weekend race fans from across the nation look forward to all year is nearly upon us.
On Thursday, fans were treated to free admission to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for NASCAR Fan Day.
This year marked the first time NASCAR fan Cody Banks joined his family for their annual road trip to NASCAR Weekend. He's already planning to return in 2014.
"Behind the scenes, there's a lot going on. To see the drivers and the pit crew, it's cool," he said.
For new fans like Banks, there's plenty to learn. Longtime fans are willing to help him make the most of his trip.
The first lesson: make sure your boss lets you take time off of work. It was easy for fan Brian Kellen.
"I own my own business, so I just take the time off," he said.
The next lesson: don't come without the camping essentials.
"We had to buy the turf. Had to make a beer pong table and ping pong table," said Kellen.
"I just love the sound of the motors. It makes the hair on my neck stand up," said fan Tom Haslam.
Perhaps the most important lesson is just to have fun.
"It's pretty awesome. Just pick a driver, pick a team, come out and have fun," Beard said.
