LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A trial was set Wednesday for the former Las Vegas casino dealer accused in the slaying of her boyfriend's 10-year-old daughter.

Brenda Stokes, 50, pleaded not guilty to murder and first-degree kidnapping charges connected to the December 2012 death of Jade Morris.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Clark County District Attorney's office confirmed it will seek the death penalty in the case.

Stokes is next due in court on July 8 and her trial was set for July 15.

Stokes also pleaded not guilty to charges connected to the razor blade attack of co-worker Joyce Rhone at the Bellagio hotel-casino on Dec. 21.

Stokes had been implicated in Jade Morris' death after she was the last seen with her before the girl disappeared on Dec. 21. According to police, Stokes was picking the girl up to go holiday shopping. Stokes was reportedly the girlfriend of Jade Morris' father, Philip Morris. The girl's body was found six days later in a desert area in North Las Vegas.

Later on Dec. 21, police said, Stokes went to the casino, where the alleged attack happened.

Rhone filed a civil complaint last month against Stokes for negligence in the attack.

Philip Morris laughed when asked about his feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Brenda Stokes

"I have no hopes for her. There is no hope," said Philip Morris after the arraignment.

Philip Morris said he was expecting the not guilty plea, but he has faith the system will bring justice to the woman he believes killed his daughter.

Stokes' attorney, Tony Liker, withdrew from the case Wednesday morning. It is likely she will be assigned a public defender. FOX5 tried reaching Liker for a statement, but he did not immediately return the calls.
