PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Two people were found shot to death, but a 4-month-old baby was still alive after an apparent homicide in Phoenix early Wednesday morning.

Phoenix police arrived at the apartment near 38th Avenue and McDowell Road about 3 a.m. after a report of gunfire, according to Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes. The door to the apartment was open, and police walked in when no one answered their calls.

Holmes said the officers found the bodies of a 20-year-old woman and a man between 20 and 30 years old in the master bedroom. They also found a baby boy unharmed, Holmes said.

Holmes said the deaths were not the result of a murder-suicide, and whoever committed the murders was on the loose.

Holmes said police know who the woman is but were not releasing her identity.

He did not say to whom the child belonged, but that he was turned over to Child Protective Services.

A neighbor told police gunshots were heard about 2 a.m., but the neighbor waited before calling police.
