PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A Fortune 200 financial services company will bring about 1,000 new jobs to the north Phoenix area.
USAA, which for 90 years has provided financial products and services to military personnel and their families, joined Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Councilwoman Thelda Williams from north Phoenix in announcing the news jobs Tuesday morning.
The Phoenix jobs are part of a 3,500 expansion of USAA in its San Antonio headquarters and Phoenix. The new jobs will include member contact representatives in investments, insurance, banking and claims; underwriters, information security specialists; business and financial analysts; and modeling and statistical analysts, according to a USAA news release.
Williams represents the city's District 1, which includes a large business community near Happy Valley Road and just east of Interstate 17 that already houses a USAA campus on 575 acres at North Norterra Parkway. The area is just north of the Deer Valley Airport.
The company plans to break ground on a 380,000-square-foot expansion of its existing campus and expects all positions to be filled by 2014. USAA said the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2014.
Other businesses in the adjacent area of the airport include Cox Communications, American Express and Honeywell.
USAA provides insurance, banking, real estate and retirement planning products and services to 9.4 million members of the military and their families.
