PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Valley woman who thought she'd never see her little lost dog again was reunited with her pet nearly two years later.

During a monsoon storm in May 2011, Jessica Rowe's Pekingese escaped.

Rowe and her family searched for weeks, but Buddy was gone.

Nearly two years later, Buddy ran out into the street and into the side of a Phoenix patrolman's car.

Officers took Buddy to the vet to get checked out and paid for all his medical expenses.

"They're awesome," Rowe said. "They have gone above and beyond what they had to."

The vet found Buddy's microchip and made Monday's reunion happen.

Buddy ran away from far east Mesa. He was found near Seventh Avenue and Camelback Road.
