LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The Clark County District Attorney announced charges Monday for embattled lawmaker Steven Brooks in connection to a domestic incident in which he was accused using a weapon to resist arrest.

D.A. Steve Wolfson said Brooks was charged with a felony count of resisting a public officer with use of a firearm, a gross misdemeanor count of assault on an officer and counts of domestic violence battery and obstructing a police officer.

According to the D.A.'s office, the felony charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Brooks was arrested in connection to the Feb. 10 incident involving his wife at her home in Las Vegas.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, officers responded to the home after Brooks' wife reported being assaulted by the assemblyman.

Brooks encountered arriving officers, according to an arrest report, and refused commands by police. One of the officers attempted to take Brooks into custody which resulted in a scuffle, police said.

"I got your gun!" Brooks was quoted as saying in the report.

Police were able to control Brooks and take him into custody.

Brooks already faces charges for alleged threats at Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick. He was arrested in January for those charges.
