LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Las Vegas Metro police during a 4 p.m. news conference Thursday discussed the arrest of Ammar Harris, who is accused in the Strip shooting and resulting wreck that killed three people.
"Ammar Harris does not reflect the values of this city, the people who live in it, work in it and visit in it," Sheriff Doug Gillespie told the media during that conference.
According to Metro, members of a Criminal Apprehension Team in Los Angeles took the 26-year-old Harris into custody at a home in North Hollywood, CA, on Thursday.
He was arrested without incident, police said.
"Officers and detectives converged on that area, he was challenged to come out of that area and he did peacefully," said Metro Homicide Lt. Ray Steiber at the news conference Thursday.
Harris was taken to the Los Angeles Police Department Detention Center, where he is awaiting extradition.
The arrest comes a week removed from the car-to-car shooting targeting 27-year-old Ken Cherry Jr. and resulted in a fiery collision of Cherry's vehicle and a taxi cab.
The crash killed 62-year-old cab driver Michael Boldon and 48-year-old passenger Sandi Sutton-Wasmund.
After learning of the arrest, Las Vegas Metro police Sheriff Doug Gillespie said he was "relieved."
"[This was the result of] great police work," Gillespie said when he was approached for comment at the Clark County Government Center Thursday.
Tehran Boldon said he was ecstatic about learning of the capture of his brother's suspected killer.
"I'm happy he was found alive," Tehran told FOX5. "He will now face the music for what he did."
Tom Sutton, the brother of victim Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, echoed Tehran Boldon's sentiments.
"I'm glad he's caught. We're thinking about today, tomorrow and the next day," he said.
Harris was identified as the driver of the black Range Rover witnessed as the suspect vehicle.
Earlier Thursday, The Associated Press, citing Metro police Capt. Chris Jones, reported three women were inside Harris' SUV at the time of the shooting.
Police believe Harris was the person who pulled the trigger in the deadly incident. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Harris is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, March 4, during which time his extradition proceeds will be determined.
"Michael Boldon, Sandra Sutton-Wasmund and Kenith Cherry were all murdered by Harris' senseless act," Gillespie said. "I hope anyone out there watching understands clearly ... you act like this person, we will find you, we will prosecute you and we will send you to prison."
Stay tuned to FOX5 for the latest on this developing story.
