LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Clark County Coroner's office released Tuesday the name of a 52-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a pick-up truck in west Las Vegas.
Brenda Kay Smiley of Las Vegas died of multiple injuries from the accident, the coroner's office ruled.
Smiley and 39-year-old Eduardo Planton-Sanchez were struck by a 2006 Nissan Titan driven by Jason Manuma, 33, on Sunday, Las Vegas Metro police said.
According to Metro, Manuma's pick-up was traveling eastbound on Sahara Avenue just after 5 p.m. The pick-up truck made an abrupt right turn into oncoming traffic on Valley View Boulevard, eventually driving up on the east sidewalk, police said.
There, the vehicle struck Smiley and Planton-Sanchez.
The woman was transported to University Medical Center Trauma, where she was pronounced dead. Planton-Sanchez was treated at UMC with moderate injuries, Metro said.
Police said the Nissan fled the scene but was later stopped by police a couple of miles near the intersection. According to Metro, Manuma failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving under intoxication causing death and leaving the scene of an accident.
The Clark County Coroner's office is expected to release the woman's identity.
Metro said the woman's death marked the 22nd traffic-related fatality this year.
