A Henderson boy has been through a lot in his eight years of life, undergoing four open heart surgeries. Now he's going all out to help other kids with similar struggles.
David Pacheco was born with congenital heart failure. His first of four open heart surgeries took place when he was just 3 months old. Since then, he's had arteries replaced and valves implanted, the latest surgery happening this past October.
David's mom, Joelene Null, has been through all of it with him.
"It's been a rough eight years with having four kids and David being the youngest. We never knew about the situation - how hard it could be," she said.
The Children's Heart Foundation reports that in Nevada more than 350 children are born each year with significant heart disease which requires medication or surgery.
On Saturday, David and his Cub Scout pack will do something for other kids living with heart abnormalities. The Walk with the Heart of a Child event at Fashion Show Mall will raise funds to support the families of those children.
The 37-member walking team has already raised over $700.
David will require a lifetime of care, something his family is preparing for.
The Walk with the Heart of a Child event is celebrating its 10th year in southern Nevada. For more information or to donate or register, click here.
